Miss Belen Dela Pena, General Manager of PartMaker Software Sales & Services, is presented with the MIAP Plaque of Appreciation by the MIAP President for Metro Manila Chapter, Mr. Danilo Andres (right), and the National President of MIAP, Mr. Virgilio Lan

Belen A. dela Pena, General Manager of Delcam’s Sales Partner in the Philippines, Partmaker Software Sales & Services, was presented with a Plaque of Appreciation during the closing ceremony of the MIAP (Metalworking Industries Association of the Philippines) National Convention.   The presentation was made by MIAP National President, Mr Virgilio Lanzuela,  at the conclusion of the Convention, which was held from 21st to 25th April with the theme "Facing the Challenges of the Asean Integration”.

MIAP is a trade association of firms engaged in metalworking and related activities that was founded in 1978 to answer the need for a body to represent the metalworking sector in the Philippines.  Its vision is a metalworking association that can provide services and assistance to its members to help them compete effectively both in the local and global industry arena.  Its mission is to work for the development of a truly progressive and dynamic metalworking association that can firmly support the needs of its members.  Its objectives are to unite all entities involved in the field of metalworking and allied engineering industries and to achieve development and growth of the Philippine metalworking industry.

One of MIAP’s many activities is the annual National Convention where activities include an exhibition for local resellers of machinery, tooling, software and other related products, and plant tours for all the metalworking companies in the area where they have the convention, plus a golf tournament and local tours of the interesting historical places.  Another important part of the event is the election of officers for the coming year.  Previous Presidents of the MIAP and other specialist speakers present papers on the theme of the convention and on other topics related to metalworking.  There are also technical presentations, which included a presentation from Miss dela Pena on "Multi-Axis Machining”.

Another of the association’s priorities is to help enhance the working skills of member’s personnel through continuous training programs in areas where members have difficulties.  There were times when the demand for Filipino workers from the international metalworking industry was so high that almost all CNC operators and designers left the Philippines.  The fast turnover of personnel, especially the skilled ones affected the local metalworking industries very badly.

MIAP, in cooperation with the two government agencies, MIRDC (Metal Industry Research & Development Center) and TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), organizes a project wherein they will train out-of-school youths, technical graduates of Tool & Die and Mechanical Technologies and Engineering undergraduates for CNC Lathe & Milling Operations, Tool programming and operations and Stamping Operation Technology.

As part of the project, in the third quarter of 2013, Partmaker Software Sales & Services was invited to conduct training course for FeatureCAM.  Two classes of twenty students each have now graduated from this course.  Now these forty students are now employed in a number of Delcam customers as CNC operators and FeatureCAM programmers.
