Design

Electrode Design

Extracting electrode geometry

  • Extract basic electrode geometry automatically using a simple Wizard
  • Use powerful Direct Modelling tools to create ready-to-use electrodes in the shortest possible time
  • Get the job done no matter how complex the electrode, using any combination of surface and solid modelling techniques

Blank and holder definition

  • Choose the electrode blank from our own custom library of sizes and materials.
  • Add an electrode holder from industry standard suppliers such as EROWA, Hischmann and System3R, or define your own

Setup sheets and GA

  • Create setup sheets and GA drawing for machinists and EDM operators, automatically to your own company standards

Data export

  • Export detailed script files for automated spark machining on common EDMs, including: AGIE Charmilles, Makino, Zimmer & Kreim and OPS Ingersoll
  • Save the .TRODE file for your project, enabling PowerMILL to manufacture the roughing, semi-finishing and finishing electrodes, and PowerINSPECT to create a fully detailed inspection report automatically.

Machining

Electrode Machining

Data transfer

  • All critical data defined in the design stage is automatically known at the machining stage
  • As soon as the .trode file is opened, the electrode geometry is loaded and the block is automatically defined according to the blank size and material defined at the design stage

Analysis

  • Visualise minimum radius and draft angles using dynamic shading and a simple slider
  • Interrogate the model further using standard PowerMILL measurement tools

Tooling

  • Choose from your own machine tools and tooling carousels

Strategies

  • Machine electrodes how you want to and store your strategies for later re-use
  • Re-apply stored strategies to automatically machine future electrodes of a similar type

Inspection

Electrode Inspection

Data transfer

  • Again, all critical data defined in the design and machining stages is automatically known and used at the inspection stage

Automatic probe path creation

  • Probe paths are automatically created based on the inspection points defined in PowerSHAPE
  • Interactively add, remove or edit inspection points in PowerINSPECT

Inspection report

  • Generate an inspection report taking into account the undersize data defined at the design stage
  • Use the report and analysis tools to decide what the next action should be, is the electrode within tolerance? Can a correction be applied? Does it need re-machining?
