Delcam software helps Zytek to One-Two at Le Mans

Zytek achieved a one-two at Le Mans with help from Delcam’s PowerMILL

Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM software helped cars with Zytek engines to first and second places in the LMP2 category at this month’s Le Mans 24-hours race.  The winning Zytek-powered Binnie Motorsports Lola was the only car in the class to have an almost trouble free run.  By contrast, the new Zytek 07S, run by Barazi-Epsilon in conjunction with Lowe’s Fernandez Racing, had a series of minor problems that kept it in second place after dominating practice, leading in the early stages and setting fastest lap.

Zytek changed to Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM system in 2004.  Since then, the two companies have worked together to develop novel machining strategies for motorsport engine manufacture, in particular for the finish machining of inlet and exhaust ports.  The results have included reductions in machining times of up to 60%, together with better quality and consistency.

"This year’s result at Le Mans is a remarkable achievement and is our best ever,” commented John Manchester, Operations Director at Zytek.  "Without the excellent service and quality products we receive from Delcam it would not have been possible.  I am certain that this result will go a long way to helping us secure more engine and chassis business next year.”
